Hoy-Scott Watershed Society & Flowlink Collaboration
March 24, 2021
Hoy-Scott Watershed Society (HSWS) is a not-for-profit, volunteer run environmental stewardship group that operates a salmon hatchery and conducts a salmon enhancement program in Coquitlam, BC.
In February 2021, HSWS and Flowlink met to discuss a potential collaboration for establishing a water quality monitoring program at Hoy Creek. The main objective of the program would be to collect baseline water quality data in various seasons and help HSWS volunteers keep the salmon in the hatchery and the creek safe.
Flowlink has already started supporting the group with the in-situ water quality measurements (general chemistry) and in the future will work alongside the HSWS team to collect and analyze water samples for parameters that may reflect human activity in the watershed, such nutrients from fertilizers, metals, E.coli, and others.
